So what is the point of setting a goal? Several wise thinkers have written about the essence of this question as well as the answers. Many of you must be aware of the maxim: you have half won the battle if you already have a goal set. My current goal is to recap briefly- all without monkey business, and having learnt from my mistakes - what is to be outlined as far as our personal aims are concerned, where we are heading to, what we want to achieve.
Outlining one`s goals is a matter of privacy in my opinion. It has to be YOUR personal decision and it is you who needs to cull through your different options in your head. Why so? Because it is your life. Thereby your goal will be your goal. It is your call to make, not the call of your neighbour, of your parents, your sibling or teacher but your own.
Many make the mistake you might have made as well: you take from your family, from your school or from wisemen the over-repeated good advice: have purposes! Then you eventually decide to take them seriously, you come up with the solution and you finally establish a goal for yourself only to fall into the following booby trap. You can surely count on someone laughing at you for your goal or starting to whine as to ‘Oh but why this? Are you sure it is a good goal? Why not something else?’ Is this situation familiar to you?
Questions will pop up and along with them uncertainties. But you can not possibly be successful out of uncertainties. And yes, these questions are born out of good will but it is all in vain when such a good will is the most destructive attribute when it comes to your goals. At this point most people give up at once since it is easier to sink into uncertainties then to stand up for your goals with all your willpower - so it`s over, the dream has just gone up in flames.
Recognize it for what it is: a trap! Thus I highly recommend you to make it real for yourself from the get-go that your goal is yours, it does not belong to anyone else. It does not even matter what you want to achieve. It is you who wants it, not them. Nobody knows you as well as yourself does. Nobody is able to judge what it is that makes you happy. Nobody but you. It is you who knows the most what you desire. So make your calls about what you want and work towards it.
You can surely choose the other option whereby you simply don´t make any decisions - as it as always difficult to decide - but I guarantee you that someone else will do so and will decide over your life, instead of you. That person will tell you what is good for you - even if it is totally wrong for you. If you do not have a goal, someone else will set one for you.
I was quite young, subsequent to my high-school years when I decided to become a programmer. I made this decision as I had set a goal to have high living standards, to be able to travel nice places, to own a good and safe car and to eat delicious food. I knew it would take hard work and that I had to decide in favor of a profession that I would need to truly love since we all know that it is indispensable to love your job if you wish to lead a quality life.
So my pesonal goals helped me in my decisions.
